The exhibition

United Rivers of Romania – The Romanian Centenary Regatta is proudly honouring Centennial Romania, by depicting the six historic provinces that accomplished Romania’s Great Union of 1918: Wallachia, Moldova, Transylvania, Bessarabia, Bucovina, and Dobrogea.

The exhibition is poised to bear testimony to the strong Romanian identity, its natural resources and rich landscapes, its diverse and wealthy cultural heritage, its lasting traditions, heroic past and vibrant present.

Argument

Navigation and waterscapes are highly valued by Romanians, and they become increasingly relevant, as we are rapidly moving into an age of daunting eco-related challenges. Sustainability becomes critical, and human living is to be wisely accommodated with nature preservation.

Therefore, rivers matter, since they offer so many different perspectives: tourism, sport, art, sense of community, all-around culture. Enhancing urban rivers` potential leads to urban regeneration, as rivers and cities have influenced each other for centuries as society evolved.

Rivers went from being a reason for establishing a city, protecting it, maintaining industrial enterprises to generating economic development, being a recreational space and nonetheless, often becoming the city’s hallmark.

No effort should be spared to allow rivers and their people to shine, and to convey the universal message that nature can be enjoyed without spoiling it.
