Ivan Patzaichin International Canoe Marathon: an endurance competition in the heart of the Danube Delta, May 22-24, Tulcea – Mila 23
The name of great athlete Ivan Patzaichin returns to where it fits best: a sporting competition – The International Canoe Marathon Ivan Patzaichin, an event dedicated to kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddle (SUP) enthusiasts.
The marathon will take place from May 22-24, marking the opening of the tourist season in the Danube Delta, following the ecotourism route “Ivan’s Delta” (Tulcea – Mila 23). This route connects the Ivan Patzaichin Memorial in Tulcea with the Ivan Patzaichin Museum in Mila 23.
The 46 km course can be completed in a single day (Elite category) or over two days (Loisir category), making the experience accessible for both professional athletes and nature and adventure enthusiasts.
The Rowing Marathon is not just a sports competition but also a model of sustainable tourism that combines environmental protection, ecological education, the promotion of natural and cultural heritage, and the development of innovative infrastructures.
Its innovative character comes from the setup of two overnight stay points along the “Ivan’s Delta” route, harmoniously integrated into nature using natural materials and autonomous energy systems. Additionally, a digital application has been developed for navigation and route monitoring.
